It was way back in 2000. The advent of new millennium had stirred the world with new hopes and new anxieties. Seven teen-ager friends, starry-eyed with their adolescent dream, felt in their heart that they should do something for the society. Unplanned, unfunded they started their journey by initiating school projects (which is named Sabuj Prithibir Khoje later on) to make aware the little boys & girls about their environment and about the superstitious beliefs, that might spoil their lives. Those seven friends themselves were still then in the precincts of their schools & the resource they had was their deep bonding with each other and their common dream of changing the world. The organization came into being and it was christened as FRIENDS IN NEED and later came to be well known in its abbreviated form "FIN" in the locality where it started working. More than a decade later, it has grown into a registered society (REGD. NO. S/1L/53410) under West Bengal Society Registration Act with over 100 members and it is expanding its activities in a wide area of nearly 50 Sq. Kms. in Barasat Municipality, Madhyamgram Municipality and parts of Barasat Block I & II of the Panchayet area. The founders, educated professionals are now being supported by a great number of new generation's educated youth are the pillars of the organization. Very few organizations can boast of so many highly educated members who have come to join this venture simply because they have a dream, a common dream of helping others. In the last 13 years they have touched the lives of thousands of students & other people with their projects & activities & that too, without any funding from any govt. or private agencies. The sheer zeal & dedication of its members have made it possible & probably it is the only organization, perhaps in the country, built up by the students, working tirelessly against all odds for the students.
